The British television production team Windfall Films visited the towing-tank facilities at FORCE Technology to film parts of their program series for Discovery Channel. The program, consisting of six one-hour episodes, portrays the design, building and installation of Maersk’s newest jack-up rig, tanker vessel and offshore support vessel.

The series has been shot throughout a couple of years to give the viewers a unique insight into the construction process of the rig and vessels and the work that goes into them.

FORCE Technology has been a part of the entire process of the offshore vessels, as we have performed model tests from the initial design stage to the finished product; e.g. CFD parametric optimisation, standard still water tests, manoeuvring and seakeeping tests in our towing tank.

The test featured in the series is the sea worthiness assessment where anti-roll tanks are placed on the top of the wheelhouse, in order to stabilise the vessel when at sea.

Kim Henriksen, Lead Naval Architect at Maersk Maritime Technology, Hydrodynamics who advised the project, explains why they use FORCE Technology to perform these types of tests: “We conduct comprehensive testing on our projects to which we need a flexible supplier with a short delivery time.”
