Identify harmful elements in buildings and assess structural and health impact
The laboratory supports organisations and individuals involved in building inspection, maintenance, renovation and demolition in clarifying whether harmful elements are present in buildings and how they affect condition and use. The need arises in situations such as moisture, mould or suspected hazardous substances, where a lack of documented analysis creates uncertainty about causes, risks and further actions.
Analysis of building-related harmful elements
The structural survey laboratory performs analysis of biological growth and selected harmful substances in materials, air and dust. These assessments provide a basis for evaluating building condition, health-related risks and handling of materials prior to renovation or demolition.

Target group and benefits
Support building investigations with laboratory analyses that clarify damage causes, health risks and harmful substances in buildings.
The structural survey laboratory supports building owners, insurers, consultants, contractors and public authorities who need documented analysis of building conditions. Results identify mould types, biological activity, wood deterioration, asbestos and other harmful substances in materials, air or dust.
This supports assessment of whether moisture, contamination or biological growth affects the building or poses health risks to occupants, including cases where problems are hidden or not yet recognised. The documented findings provide a basis for decisions on preservation, remediation and further investigation, including situations before renovation or demolition where handling of materials and substances must be clarified.

Facility specifications
Provide laboratory analyses of harmful elements in buildings to support building and health assessment
Mould analysis and indoor climate testing
The laboratory analyses samples from materials, surfaces, air and dust to identify mould types. Indoor climate testing includes culture and DNA tests, and growth testing includes tape impressions, material samples and Mycometer testing.
Analysis of wood decay fungi and insects
Wood samples are analysed to identify wood-decay fungi and insects. Deterioration can be categorised for insurance purposes, and microscopy is used to distinguish between types of fungi and document damage.
Asbestos and fibre analysis
The laboratory analyses building materials, air and dust to determine whether asbestos fibres are present. It also performs quantitative and qualitative analysis of other inorganic fibres and microparticles such as mineral wool.
