ISO 17025-accredited high-pressure gas flow calibration under representative pipeline conditions with traceable, low-uncertainty results.

Our MEGA loop facility supports manufacturers of large-diameter gas flow meters and gas transmission operators who require reliable calibration under high-pressure operating conditions. The need arises when gas flow meters must be calibrated under operating conditions equivalent to on-site conditions. Uncertainty in large-scale gas measurement can result in financial exposure, regulatory risk, and reduced confidence in settlement data.

Calibration under representative pipeline conditions

The facility enables calibration under conditions representative of real gas infrastructure, providing documented measurement uncertainty and recognised traceability. The outcome is documented calibration results with traceability for high-pressure gas flow meters.

The facility is part of our expertise area Calibration and verification. We also offer air-calibration and low-pressure calibration of gas flow meters.

Target group and benefits

Traceable high-pressure calibration of gas flow meters under operating conditions equivalent to on-site conditions.

The MEGA loop facility primarily serves manufacturers developing and validating turbine, ultrasonic, swirl, vortex and Coriolis meters for high-pressure gas applications. It also supports transmission and distribution operators in verifying in-service meters used for settlement and regulatory reporting. Calibration is required when introducing new meter designs, confirming performance prior to commissioning or investigating deviations observed in operation. Without representative high-pressure verification, organisations face increased uncertainty in fiscal measurement and potential disputes in commercial gas exchange.

Calibration can be performed using natural gas, biogas or air, allowing results to reflect realistic operating behaviour across the full pressure and flow range. Documented uncertainty within the ISO 17025-accredited scope provides recognised traceability and supports regulatory documentation and audit processes. Flexible scheduling, including 24/7 operation and remote witnessing, helps reduce downtime and maintain continuity in critical gas infrastructure.
