Find out what the variation in traffic day and night means to the traffic noise: high traffic intensity in the daytime and less in the night.

In general, traffic noise is quantified in decibels (dB) and is referred to as a yearly average over 24 hours. But the noise level fluctuates significantly during the time of day. In these examples you can hear the variations. During the daytime, the traffic flow is much higher – effecting the noise significantly – than during the evening, and especially nighttime.

How to listen to auralisations

You can adjust the sound level of your playback system (PC, tablet, or smartphone) using the sound file for adjustment of volume on this page.

Adjust the level to the point where it sounds like a person speaking at normal volume one meter in front of you. You can compare it to a real person speaking at a meter’s distance. You may have to adjust the level a couple of times before you’re confident the level is right.
