What are the environmental requirements of the directives?

  • PPWD: sets requirements for packaging and packaging waste.
  • REACH: is the EU regulation for the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals.
  • RoHS: restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Previously, this directive did not apply to medical devices. But currently it does, with the exception of active implants.
  • The Batteries Directive: means manufacturers must consider the product’s battery integration and the possibility of removing it for disposal, among other things.
  • WEEE: concerns the labelling and collection of electronic waste. You might have seen the symbol with a crossed-out wheelie bin, which is there to remind us that the product should not be disposed as household waste.
