Electronic waste and recycling

Electronic waste (e-waste) is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world and, at the same time, one of the most complex to manage. In Denmark, around 94,000 tonnes of electronic waste are generated annually, and the EU has set a target for at least 65% of the electronic equipment placed on the market to be collected for reuse or recycling.

At the same time, many electronic products and components end up as waste even though they still contain valuable materials or have the potential for a longer useful life.

This raises questions about how electronic waste can be managed more effectively and how valuable resources can be kept in circulation through reuse and recycling.

Extending the lifetime of electronics

There is also a need to understand the trade-offs that may arise when extending the lifetime of electronics, including the balance between durability, repairability, resource consumption and recyclability.

At this network meeting, we will take a closer look at the electronics life cycle, with a particular focus on the management and recycling of electronic waste and on extending the lifetime of electronic products.

We will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with both areas.
