Denmark has taken another step towards a greener, hydrogen-based future with the opening of the Hydrogen Technology Test Centre.

17 September 2024

Small enough to fit into 3 trailers, yet among the most advanced hydrogen testing facilities in Denmark, the new Hydrogen Technology Test Centre was officially opened on 17 September by Force Technology and the Danish Gas Technology Centre (DGC).

The test centre is a vital part of the green transition

The new Hydrogen Technology Test Centre will play an important role in the transition to hydrogen and Power-to-X, supporting the needs and ambitions of the hydrogen market as part of Denmark’s green transformation. The centre offers a broad range of testing and analysis services covering hydrogen technologies, including materials testing, quality analysis, efficiency measurements, emissions testing and leak detection. Its purpose is to accelerate the development of new hydrogen and Power-to-X technologies, helping innovative solutions reach the market faster and deliver tangible benefits.

The centre brings together specialist knowledge and capabilities, providing organisations involved in the production, transport, and use of hydrogen with easy access to state-of-the-art facilities and expert advice. It has been designed to support both small and large industry players and can accommodate testing requirements ranging from kilowatt to gigawatt scale.

Advanced testing facilities are essential for hydrogen to become a cornerstone of the energy system

Hydrogen will be crucial in achieving Denmark’s climate ambitions and creating a greener energy sector. At the same time, hydrogen technologies place unique demands on safety and environmental performance. Advanced testing facilities are therefore essential if hydrogen is to become a fundamental component of the future energy system. The new test centre addresses these challenges by providing support for the development, transport, and application of hydrogen technologies.

The official opening took place on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, at Force Technology’s facilities in Brøndby. More than 100 participants had the opportunity to experience the new facilities first-hand, speak with specialists and gain insight into how the centre will contribute to the green transition. The programme also included guided tours showcasing both stationary and mobile testing facilities.

Participants included specialists and executives from Hydrogen Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency, Evida, Energinet, DGC, and Force Technology.

Facts about the test centre

The Hydrogen Technology Test Centre is based at Force Technology’s facilities in Brøndby and at the Danish Gas Technology Centre in Hørsholm. In addition to the permanent facilities, the centre includes mobile testing units that can be deployed wherever they are needed.

The centre has received DKK 6.8 million in funding from Green Labs DK under the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP).
