From efficiency to sustainability: Dynamica Ropes’ digital transformation journey
Embracing industry 4.0 with digital factory acceleration.
As Danish manufacturers increasingly integrate Industry 4.0 strategies, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) like Dynamica Ropes A/S are proving that digital innovation can drive both operational efficiency and sustainable development. With support from the Digital Factory Acceleration (DFA) program — a three-year initiative by FORCE Technology and Aalborg University, co-funded by Industriens Fond - Dynamica Ropes embarked on a transformative journey to modernize its operations.
Mapping the future of efficiency
Dynamica Ropes, a Fredericia-based producer of high-performance synthetic ropes and tethers, initially faced challenges such as manual stock tracking, inefficient order management, and cumbersome production planning. Through the DFA program’s Digital Factory Mapping phase, these pain points were systematically analyzed, revealing three key areas for improvement:
- Upgrading the ERP system to include warehouse and production scheduling modules.
- Implementing paperless production tracking with barcode/QR code scanners and automated data collection for transparency.
- Introducing real-time order information displays to minimize time lost retrieving data manually.
Bridging efficiency and sustainability
The next phase, Digital Factory Realisation, focused on automating sustainability reporting — a growing demand among Dynamica Ropes’ clients. Collaborating again with FORCE Technology via the European Digital Innovation Hub AddSmart, Dynamica Ropes implemented an IoT-powered system to collect machine data and translate it into carbon footprint metrics. This five-step solution streamlines sustainability documentation, ensuring customers receive accurate, order-specific environmental reports.
Scalable impact
By integrating these digital solutions, Dynamica Ropes not only enhanced production efficiency but also strengthened its commitment to sustainability. The groundwork laid by the DFA program offers a scalable model, with plans to evolve the semi-automated sustainability reporting into a fully integrated system within the company’s new ERP.About Digital Factory Acceleration
The DFA program provides Danish SMEs with hands-on support to identify digital opportunities and implement tailored solutions. The initiative aims to make digital transformation accessible and impactful for 21 participating companies.
