The MEGA loop construction has begun
In August 2021, CEO Hanne Christensen and Mayor of Vejen Egon Fræhr took the first step towards the largest investment in the history of FORCE Technology: The MEGA loop for calibrating flow meters.
The MEGA loop is the upcoming largest and most unique calibration facility in the world
At exactly 10.30h on the 13th August 2021, the construction of the MEGA loop was officially inaugurated by FORCE Technology’s CEO Hanne Christensen who took the first sod on the construction site along side the Mayor of Vejen, Egon Fræhr.
The MEGA loop will be the largest calibration laboratory of its kind in the world when it is inaugurated in 2023. It will be more than twice the size of the existing calibration facilities in FORCE Technology.
The MEGA loop will add more capacity to the existing facilities at FORCE Technology in terms of both better time slots and additional space for all meter sizes and metering lines in both the upstream and downstream sector.
The proportions of the new laboratory will also open for new opportunities for calibration of long meter systems with two meters in series, which has been in high demand from end-users in the upstream and downstream sectors for many years.
Hanne Christensen, CEO at FORCE Technology and Egon Fræhr, Mayor of Vejen, cut the first sod on the construction site of the new MEGA loop.
The MEGA loop is part of the ambition for Power-to-X
The expectation is that the finished building and plant will be ready in January 2023, where it will be able to calibrate flow meters in all sizes with a pressure of 0-65 bar and flow of 0-50,000 m3 / h, and a calibration accuracy of less than 0.15 %. This capacity will make the MEGA loop not only the largest calibration facility in the world but also completely unique on the market.
But the MEGA loop is unique in more than one way, as it will be able to operate with hydrogen mixtures - an important prerequisite for being part of the ambition for a green Power-to-X-transition.
“The MEGA loop is the largest investment in our 80-year history - but more importantly, it is an investment in the future. With the MEGA loop, we will have a calibration laboratory that can not only meet our customers' increased need for capacity and volume within flow calibration, but also enable us to calibrate their future flow meters, which will be able to measure hydrogen and other greener fuels, ”says Hanne Christensen, CEO at FORCE Technology.
The MEGA loop has thus been future-proofed with new technology that enables it to calibrate with up to 25% hydrogen in natural gas. This is an important prerequisite for the MEGA loop to be part of the ambition for a green Power-to-X-transition.
The participants received a tour around the existing gas flow calibration facilities, where the technology behind the MEGA loop was explained and demonstrated.
