An improved hydrodynamic ship model will ensure a precise simulation of manoeuvres in shallow water, waves, currents, harbours, fairways, and channels.


The purpose is to develop an improved hydrodynamic ship model based on a precise simulation of ship manoeuvres in shallow water, harbours, fairways, and channels.

The goal is to support the optimal use of Danish waterways based on safety and efficiency considerations.

To achieve this, we are developing a mathematical model to calculate waves and currents around ships, and determine hydrodynamic forces with higher precision than that which was previously attainable.

Target group

The target group is Danish harbours, shipping companies, piloting companies, tugboat operators, maritime educational institutions, maritime training centres, and engineering consultancies.
