Surface treatment with rubber using AM techniques

Mask surface coating
We are testing a surface treatment as an alternative to a more expensive method involving vulcanised rubbermoulding. The test item is a 3D-printed ISO 16900-5:2015 test head with rubber. The aim is to achieve the same performance as vulcanised rubber. The test head is used for testing face masks and is printed with FFF technologyand a PLA material. With 3D printing in FFF or other AM technologies, there is no need for expensive tools.

FORCE Technology is an accredited testing laboratory for PPE (personal protective equipment) and performs manytests on all types of face masks. Face masks are subjected to several tests, one of which is performed on "breath-ing" test heads.

Due to a shortage of test heads, AM Link partner 3D Printhuset A/S scanned a test head in just a few hours andcreated a CAD file to print more test heads.
