Road noise - consultancy, measurement, and calculation
We offer road noise consultancy services for both new and existing roads, as well as for new construction projects adjacent to roads.
We use the Nord2000 model for road noise calculations, in accordance with instructions from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. We produce a 3D noise model of the road and its surroundings, and we show the distribution of the noise on a noise map.
We can advise you on noise dampening measures, like the placement of noise barriers and earthworks, or acoustic isolation windows and soundproof façades for buildings. We can also help you determine the effect of noise reduction measures, such as:
- Asphalt coatings and road surfaces
- Noise baffles and barriers
- Traffic and speed management.
To conclude, you will also receive documentation of noise-related effects, in the form of (e.g.) noise maps and reports.
To help you communicate the results, or as a supplementary decision-making tool, we can auralise the road noise - i.e., we can produce audio files that accurately reproduce how road noise will sound in the future.
Traffic noise from railways, light rail, and metro systems
We offer advice, measurements, and calculations of traffic noise from rail traffic. Rail traffic noise calculations and measurements are especially relevant to:
- Infrastructure projects in which noise must be reduced to the greatest extent possible
- Documentation of building plot noise along railways
- Other noise-sensitive applications along railways.
For example, we can offer advice on the placement of noise barriers and baffles, as well as on the effects of other noise reduction measures, such as rail grinding. We can calculate the effects of noise before you build, such as for environmental assessments / EIAs.
As our customer, you will always be working with experts that have many years of experience in measuring and calculating railway noise. Among other projects, we prepared many of the reports that form the basis of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's Nord2000 calculation method. We have also measured noise from the majority of train types that are on today's railways.
Aeroplane noise - consultancy
We offer consultancy services for aeroplane noise from airports, airfields, and helipads, whether you need to prepare environmental assessments / EIAs or simply wish to gain insight into the noise impact from flight activities.
We also perform noise monitoring (measurement) and measurements for individual planes; e.g., for approval of specific plane types.

In our consultancy services, we typically employ DANSIM (Danish Airport Simulation Model), our calculation system developed in-house. DANSIM calculates the noise impact from airports based on actual or expected traffic, the flight path system, and the airport's surrounding topography.
You can benefit from our in-depth knowledge of airport and airfield traffic flows, making it possible for us to perform reliable noise calculations. We are familiar with the various plane types, their characteristics, and their modes of operation, so we can make highly accurate noise impact determinations.
Traffic noise from ships, fast ferries, and in port areas
Get help with managing traffic noise from ships and fast ferries, and their effects on port areas.
Since the first fast ferries were introduced, we have been calculating and measuring the traffic noise from ports and fast ferries, and helped to document the associated noise. We can support you with measurements and calculations for mapping out the effects of noise, as well as offer advice on ways to limit noise in and around port areas.
Special noise rules apply to fast ferries as described in the "Statutory order on environmental approval of fast ferry routes", for reasons that include the high volumes of low-frequency noise that they often produce. The noise requirements in the order address the particular nuisance posed by the low-frequency noise from fast ferries. Furthermore, much of the associated sound propagation occurs over water, which generally does not dampen noise in the way that land would.
We can also perform noise calculations for the both expansion of existing ports and the construction of new ports. We prepare a 3D model of the port and its surroundings, and then adjust the model to reflect the planned changes. In this way, we can calculate and illustrate the noise-related effects. The noise calculation model is an excellent planning tool when designing new port areas or modifying existing ones.
