Optimal indoor acoustics is essential for both the functional value and comfort of a building. We perform building and room acoustic measurements and calculations to improve the indoor sound environment.

You may benefit from consultancy services in the field of acoustics and environmental acoustic measurements for all kinds of buildings, from small residential properties to large cultural buildings.

Acoustic consultancy for new buildings and renovations

As an architect, engineer, or contractor you may be on the lookout for assessments and calculations of sound-related properties for whole buildings, parts of buildings, construction projects, and materials, both for new constructions and renovations.

If you design for sound and acoustics from the start of your construction project, you may avoid the need for subsequent improvements to the interior acoustics — as these are generally both expensive and difficult.

We can help you meet sound requirements to ensure that the indoor acoustics are satisfying for the building's users. For new residential properties, schools, and institutions, the Danish Building Regulations (Bygningsreglementet in Danish) indicate specific requirements for sound insulation, room acoustics, and noise from technical installations.

Once a building has been completed, measurements of the building's acoustics will ensure that the building has achieved the desired acoustic properties and adheres to the sound-related provisions of the Danish Building Regulations.

If you have received complaints regarding the acoustic environment in existing buildings, you may benefit from measurements and advice regarding remedial measures.

A broad approach to building acoustics

Benefit from vast exertise in building and room acoustic measurements, including an extensive range of specialised services:

  • Verification measurements of sound insulation
The transmission of sound between residences ("neighbour noise"), classrooms, or offices can significantly reduce a building's functional value. Be sure to meet your desired or required level of sound insulation.
Have the sound insulation of your building verified by performing measurements of airborne and impact sound insulation according to the DS/EN ISO 16283 series. We use a loudspeaker as a sound source when measuring airborne sound insulation, while impact sound insulation is measured with a standardised tapping machine.
  • Room acoustics and acoustic treatment for spaces in buildings
Room acoustics, or acoustic treatment for spaces, is highly significant to every room's use. In some rooms, minute adjustments may be necessary to make it possible to hear and understand music or speech. In others, the noise level from activities and loud voices may need to be minimised.
Our acoustic measurements of spaces include reverberation time measurements, according to the DS/EN ISO 3382 series.

  • Noise from technical installations
Noise from technical installations such as ventilation systems, heat pumps, or plumbing fixtures affect the experience of comfort in a building.
We perform noise measurements for all types of building facilities, in accordance with (e.g.) the DS/EN ISO 10052 standard, used for verification measurements as set out in the Danish Building Regulations.

  • Incorporate acoustic design from the start of the project
Indoor acoustics ought to be regarded on the same level as other building characteristics during building planning and design.
We would be happy to participate in an early design overview to help you avoid errors in acoustic design. In doing so, you will benefit from an experience-based assessment of acoustic solutions, as well as calculations of sound insulation and the acoustic characteristics of the space, in accordance with (e.g.) the DS/EN ISO 12354 series.

We run our calculations using special software for building and room acoustics, which simulate acoustic conditions in buildings.

In our architectural acoustics laboratories, you can get insight into the acoustic properties of building components, including sound insulation, sound reduction index, impact sound insulation, improvement of impact sound insulation, as well as the absorption area and coefficients.
