What is eco-design?

How do green business models relate to the terms circular economy and green transition?
These terms are closely connected and all relate to societal development, which is driven by the need to decouple the economic development from the environmental impacts and consumption of resources.
- Green business models: The term covers new and more environmental friendly ways to conduct business. Normally a green business model involves one or more of the following elements: recycling of products and materials, sharing economy and substitution of unwanted or toxic substances.
- Circular economy: Circular economy is about keeping materials and products within the economic circuit with the highest possible value for the longest time possible. Circular economy discards the idea of a linear value chain, which starts with the extraction of resources and ends with waste. Instead the circular economy focuses on reuse and recycling of materials.
- Green transition: A general term which covers profound changes in our consumption patterns, thereby making this more environmental friendly. The term can cover structural, economic as well as technological transitions at a societal or a company level. Often the term is used more narrowly to describe the transition from fossil energy to energy from renewable energy sources.
